Our client is a mission-oriented research and technology organisation (RTO) active in the fields of materials, environment and informatics. They develop competitive and market-oriented product/service prototypes for public and private actors and work on the whole innovation chain: basic/applied research, incubation, technology transfer.

The MRT (Material Research & Technology) department is looking for a Scientific and Technology Expert in Micro-Electromechanical System. The MRT department has been invested in state-of-the art micro-nanofabrication facilities since a decade with the first demonstration of the most advanced sensing and actuating technologies relying on specific and novel materials expertise.

The successful candidate will be based in Belvaux in Luxembourg.

The role

The candidate will, thanks to its broad expertise in the field of MEMS, contribute to the deployment of Autonomous Internet-of-Thing and the integration of smarter devices in multiple systems.

The main tasks, which include the execution and development of the department's strategic RDI excellence, are as follows:

  • Work on long-term and strategic MRT projects to further develop MEMS expertise and achievements in the department.
  • Actively participate in the strategic research and innovation agenda of MRT by providing scientific analysis of the RDI unit's roadmaps, providing strategic decision support, defining the department's priorities, mentoring researchers in the execution of their projects and assisting managers in implementing their RDI roadmap.
  • Be at the cutting edge of current and future technology, by keeping a constant watch and providing vision, acute analysis and strategic advice for projects to be developed.
  • Makes critical analysis that can determine strategic decisions and helps to anticipates situations, changes or risks in your field of expertise (megatrends analysis in research, breakthrough identification and critical analysis of them).
  • Guide the definition of relevant proposals and support younger PI’s in their project application.
  • Publish influential papers and books, serve on international conferences, advise on the valorisation strategy by reinforcing the patent contents.
  • Builds networks that benefit the interaction of MRT with nat/int parties and makes smart use of them to strategically develop an international network of collaborations.

Qualifications & Experience

You hold a PhD degree in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry or Engineering within around 15-25 years’ as scientific or technology expert driven by research and technology excellence (applied university, applied research centre, high-tech companies). You are an internationally recognized researcher in the field of MEMS.

Skills & Competencies

You have demonstrated previous leadership experience in managing large R&D projects/programmes/strategies and have achieved a high level of knowledge and expertise in several areas related to your field of excellence. You have extensive experience in the design, execution and success of fundamental and applied research projects and in the development of industrial partnerships (Successful funding in ERC/EIC/large EU projects).

You show extraordinary research productivity and you are an excellent communicator and networker with strong records in written and oral communication skills e.g. in publications, patents, reports, presentations and/or proposals, but you are also highly motivated by useful and necessary applications and technology transfer. You are a strong team player with the ability to work with a diverse range of colleagues in an international environment and an inspiring superviser/leader for graduate students and post-doctoral researchers

You are fluent in English both spoken and written (French, German or/and Luxembourgish are assets).
