Adoc Talent Management is assisting a leading research institute in the search for a Research Project Funding & Portfolio Manager.
In a dynamic and multicultural scientific environment, this key position aims to oversee around 50 projects. Specialised in the management of research projects, the candidate will mainly ensure the smooth running of the early steps of the lifecycle's research projects.
Mission and Key Responsibilities
As a Research Project Management Officer, you will play a pivotal role in steering, supporting, and continuously improving research project management processes within the institute.
Your main responsibilities include:
- Grant scouting, Funding Intelligence & project submission (≈80% of role):
- Actively identify, monitor, and prospect funding opportunities (grants, public tenders, collaborations) at national and European levels.
- Collaborate with PIs to develop competitive funding proposals and guide them through the submission process, including negotiations, modifications, and re-forecasting.
- Collect and analyze data and feedback from researchers and funding bodies, and disseminate relevant information on funding guidelines and submission rules.
- Serve as the go-to expert on research funding mechanisms, ensuring that projects are aligned with available financial opportunities.
- Portfolio Management (≈20% of role):
- Oversee the administrative and operational follow-up of funded projects, focusing on managing changes in project scope.
- Ensure that adjustments in financial and human resources are handled efficiently and that the overall project portfolio remains coherent and aligned with institutional objectives.
- Work in coordination with other team members to implement and continuously improve best practices in both funding management and project portfolio oversight.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Advise and train researchers on the overall administrative process of the Project Management Office.
- Provide general support for LISER projects and initiatives by facilitating cross-functional collaboration between internal teams and external partners.
Required Profile
We are seeking a proactive, structured, and communicative professional with strong leadership skills. This role requires autonomy and the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of academic and institutional stakeholders.
Educational Background and Experience
- Master’s or PhD in economics, social sciences, public policy, geography, or other relevant disciplines.
- Minimum 5 years in research project management or a similar role, with demonstrable experience in securing funding and managing grants.
- Strong knowledge of national and European research funding mechanisms.
- Experience in an international academic or institutional environment.
Scientific and Technical Skills
- Proficiency in project management and database tools.
- Solid understanding of regulatory and financial frameworks for research funding.
- Ability to analyze and structure numerical and administrative data.
- Excellent command of English and French (German and Luxembourgish are a plus).
Soft & Behavioral Skills
- Leadership and initiative to structure and enhance project management processes.
- Strong communication and training skills to effectively support researchers.
- Assertiveness and interpersonal ease, with the ability to interact with various profiles (researchers, funders, administration).
- Ability to seek out and analyze information, particularly on funding opportunities and submission processes.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
